At Epsilon Home, we’ve chosen to completely avoid paraffin wax in our products — and here’s why.

Paraffin wax is a by-product of petroleum refining, which means it’s fossil-fuel based and non-renewable. But beyond its environmental footprint, there are also potential health concerns linked to burning paraffin:


  • 🛑 Releases toxic by-products when burned: Studies have shown that paraffin candles can release small amounts of chemicals like toluene and benzene, which are known irritants and potential carcinogens when inhaled in unventilated spaces.

  • 🌫 Produces more soot than natural waxes: Paraffin tends to burn hotter and faster, which can generate black soot particles. These can settle on walls, ceilings, and surfaces — and more importantly, can be inhaled into the lungs, especially in enclosed spaces.

  • 😷 Can irritate people with asthma or allergies: The soot and fumes from paraffin can trigger respiratory irritation, particularly for sensitive individuals, children, and pets.
