Frequently asked questions
Reed diffusers are one of the simplest ways to enjoy continuous home fragrance, but their lifespan can vary depending on how and where they're used. Whether you're purchasing your first diffuser or wondering why yours has emptied sooner than expected, understanding the factors that affect performance can help you enjoy beautiful fragrance for even longer.
In this guide, we'll explain how long a reed diffuser should last, what influences its lifespan, and share practical tips to help you get the very best from your diffuser.
1.How Long Should Reed Diffusers Last?
One of the questions we're asked most often is, "How long will my reed diffuser last?"
While there's no single answer, a quality 100 ml reed diffuser should typically fragrance your home for between two and four months.
Every home is different. A diffuser placed in a cool hallway may last significantly longer than one positioned in a warm, sunny living room with windows open throughout the day.
Rather than promising an exact lifespan, it's better to understand the factors that influence how quickly the fragrance oil naturally evaporates.

2.What Affects How Long A Reed Diffuser Lasts?
Several factors influence how quickly your diffuser oil is used.

ROOM TEMPERATURE
Heat naturally increases evaporation. Placing your diffuser near radiators, direct sunlight or in a warm room will cause the oil to diffuse faster.
AIRFLOW
Air movement increases the evaporation process. Diffusers placed near open windows, doors or fans will diffuser faster, although the scent may travel further.
NUMBER OF REEDS
More reeds mean more surface area for the oil to evaporate. This creates a stronger fragrance but will shorten the overall lifespan of your diffuser.
POSITIONING
Where the diffuser sits makes a big difference. Avoid direct heat sources and strong draughts for the best balance of fragrance and longevity.
ROOM SIZE
Larger, open-plan rooms may require more reeds and will typically use oil faster than smaller, enclosed rooms.
3. How To Make Your Reed Diffuser Last Longer
-
Use fewer reeds in smaller rooms.
-
Keep away from direct heat and sunlight.
-
Avoid strong draughts from open windows.
-
Turn the reeds only when the scent starts to fade, rather than everyday.
-
Choose a room size that matches the fragrance strength you want.
Remember, every home is unique. Seasonal temperature changes, room size and ventilation all influence how long your diffuser will last.
EPSILON TIP
A stronger fragrance isn't always better.
If your room already well scented after a few hours, considering removing 1 or 2 reed. You'll still enjoy a luxurious fragrance while helping your diffuser to last longer.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long should a 100ml diffuser last?
Most 100 ml reed diffusers will last between 2 and 4 months, depending on room conditions and the number of reeds used.
Why has my diffuser run out quicker than expected?
Warm temperatures, direct sunlight, open windows and using all eight reeds can all increase evaporation, causing your diffuser to empty more quickly.
Does using more reeds make a diffuser run out faster?
Yes. More reeds expose a larger surface area to the air, allowing more fragrance oil to evaporate. This creates a stronger scent but generally shortens the diffuser's lifespan.
Should I replace the reeds?
Yes. When you refill your diffuser, replacing the reeds will usually give the best fragrance performance, as older reeds can become saturated over time.
Can I use fewer than 8 reeds?
Absolutely. Our diffusers are supplied with eight reeds, but you can use fewer if you're scenting a smaller room or prefer a more subtle fragrance.
Can a reed diffuser last longer than four months?
Yes. While most 100 ml reed diffusers last between 2 and 4 months, some can last much longer. We've had customers enjoy fragrance for over 12 months, particularly when using fewer reeds in cooler rooms away from direct heat and draughts.
